The gene pool defianately could be called shallow in the LaGrange area, but there were some really great people there too. The 80 something lady down the road had her name in the paper after getting caught jacking deer, I felt bad for her so I brought her some moose roasts and steaks from the moose I got, the next day I had a quart of homemade maple syrup and 2 dozen fresh eggs on my doorstep. Her husband Bud taught me how to make syrup while we drank some of his homemade wine.

The road I lived on was 8-10 miles long from LaGrange to Enfield and had probably 20-25 houses on it, I knew more of my neighbors there than I do here where everyone is right next to each other. Each morning going to work I would pass the same log trucks, after a short time they start recognizing the truck and would wave every morning.

We go right through there. We get off 295 in Brunswick, hit Sara's in Wiscasset (not Red's) have lunch then continue on 1 to Camden. We didn't make it last year, but in 05, I got 23 mpg on the trip. Not bad for a truck that only had ~ 3K on it.

I like going that way as it's more scenic, but don't care for going 50 mph for 5 miles, then slow down to 30 going through a town, then back up to 50.

Remember the traffic lights they put up for a couple of years? Boy, talk about turning route 1 into the longest, narrowest parking lot on the east coast. :duh: At least they learned quickly. If that was MA, the lights would still be there.

We have a traffic light in limington! Im at the coffee shop at the intersection of 11 and 25

Whe you get off at newport, to go to greenville hang a right before the rite go down there about a 1/2 mile to the valero station, cheapest diesel in the state.

Yes they are. I used to go up when I was a kid when Wally's parents were running the place. I like being familiar with the area, so when the tourists are there, I know how to avoid them downtown and in Acadia.

Imagine if they didn't have all the tourism. If that tax revenue from the people who are "from away" wasn't going into the coffers, the residents would really be gouged. On the other hand, route 95 & 1, especially through Wiscasset & Camden, would be alot easier to drive though in the summer.

Are you interested in places that do kayak tours, too? If so, there's two on Cottage St in Bar Harbor. One at the corner of Rt 3. The also rent bikes and during the summer, the front of the place is loaded with them. A ways down Cottage is Acadia Bike & Canoe and there's a place down by the pier where they do the boat tours.

If you're going up before the spring, alot of these places might not be open. There probably aren't alot of kayak tours heading out on Frenchman's Bay this time of the year.
