Offical NTDP Decal (Ideas Wanted)

With the other thread getting a bit crazy with off topic stuff, I have started this new thread for ideas and feedback on a new NTDP decal. I'm going to ask you the members to police yourselves and stay on topic, I am also going to task our moderators to keep things in check by deleting if thats possable any reply that is not on topic.
So please if your reply has nothing to do with a NTDP Decal then please post it elsewhere.

Here is what I have so far an outline of the NEW ENGLAND states with the NTDP web address and a turbo incorporated into the design.

I agree with the folks that said this is New England Turbo Diesel Power, and last I knew New York wasnt a New England state, sorry NY folks nothing personal. There was talk of changing the name? if thats going to happen it needs to be discussed in another thread, and happen soon so we can get the decals rolling in the direction they need to go.

There was also mention of a rear profile of a truck with stacks with the name incorporated into it. I already have a similar idea on file. The file I already have is twin turnouts, Doug has seen it.

So with that I'll open the floor to you folks, and we shall get things rolling once again.

I've been using a Scalable Vector Graphics program called Inkscape (I LOVE FreeWare), I can save it in a 1/2 dozen different formats. Just let me know if you want them.

First off, the website and club name that has been used since 2001 wil not be changed.

secondly, IMHO leave the map out of it for simplicity sake.

I think it should be a community decision. This forum software has polls, doesn't it? Not to take the final decisions from the "powers that be", but if people are gonna pay for these, it should be something every one of us would be proud to display.

Anyway, I'll ad :m2c: to this. The site name is New England Turbo Diesel Power, so just keep the turbo and the URL and drop every thing else.

I had asked for some samples and the guy sent me our club's logo with my member # on it! :omg: Talk about a good salesman. Doable, probably; cost more definitely!

Allways liked that. I remember for the 25,000 member mark on the TDR a few years back they were looking into doing a tdr turbo with member names underneath. At the time there were 15,000 members that were active on the forums and another 10,000 that were magazine only subscription.

To have the names made alone was $.07 and would have to be affixed seperate from the logo. Forget about if someone screws up his sticker then the fiasco begins. . . .... and another and another ...

An anual run of N.E.T.D.P Stickers with member names is slick indeed, Maybee Bi~Annual as the group is nowhere near 30,000 members.

I like this idea, but let me throw another wrench into this and suggest something closer to the site's activities. A decal featuring a burn barrell, the #12 and the #24 with a pair of boxing gloves or swords beneath them. Maybe some skid marks with a red circle with a line diagonally through it. How about a building with a derby on top of it since that's where Jim's shop is. You get the idea.

I kinda like the lighthouse, clippership, or other new england icon idea. What's the point of putting a truck decal on a truck and anyone who knows anything about diesel trucks knows it's got a turbo. Silly as it sounds, even the twin-turbo-clawed lobster could be cool if drawn by a good artist.

Putting www.NewEnglandTurboDieselPower.com on it will tell them what the sticker is all about

Some good ideas getting thrown around I like it. I'm going to start playing around with the truck & turbo idea, both have already been started. The turbo idea will be very close to what the site has now. The truck will have the member name either on the rear gate or rear window. The site name is so large that it will take a bit to place it without having the letters to small to read.

Here is the turbo idea, almost an exact copy of what the site has now, just had to change the font, the original font would have been a pain if not impossable to make small window decals with. The size is Approx. 7"x7"

I was thinking of doing that but ran out of time this morning and wanted to get at least something up before I went to far.

Can you do custom colors? Since it sounds like you're planning on adding the members name, I'd think that each one would be cut at the time of order, so can we choose the color at that time too?

I dunno, but I sorta know that vinal can be expensive if bought in small quantities, so unless Al has a veriety of colors in stock for his customers, it could be a little too expensive for something like this. Maybe two color choices would be better. Black and white?

The problem with having the turbo in the decal is that everyone uses a turbo in their logo. (including TDoNE)
Someone mentioned this earlier, and Jim replied it's a good design and that is why everyone uses it. I'm not arguing this point.

Let's go with something a little more original.

The truck with the stacks is a generic picture, most people associate stacks with diesel trucks. It doesn't mean that YOU have to have stacks on your truck.

Using a generic truck, without stacks, would look like a gasser....and nobody wants that on their truck.

Doug, you have a couple good points there. What about putting a turbo on the tailgate of the truck then? Or better yet, putting the truck inside an outline of a turbo? The later would look good on the second image linked to above with the site name wrapped around the turbo.

Also, what about the TDI guys? They probably wouldn't want an image of a truck on their cars.

If you read the info on my website, I cut all my work when it's ordered always been that way. I dont get stuck with a bunch of stuff I cant sell, and you get a product that hasnt been sitting around.

When I work with groups like this someone has to take the ball and figure out who wants what and how many, when that happens a price can be determined.

For the first time they will need to be ordered together to get the price I set. Understand Ive been screwed in the past by groups if I dont handle things this way. (they say they'll take this many, I give a price for that amount, just to have only 1/4 of the people that signed on actually order them)

After that I put all the info on my website, and you can order as few or as many as you want. The price will be slightly higher for one or two sales.

Just a rough guess for any of the designs, but your not looking at no more then $6.00 to your door.(standard vinyl) The initial order $4.50 ea plus a bulk S&H charge thats based on an order of 25+

Colors for the initial order, pick two NO SPECIALTY VINYLS (ie. chrome metallics)after that the skys the limit on colors.

So with that I'll leave it in your hands on wha you want to do.

It's not that I don't like any of them, I looked over Al's site and he does some good work, it's just that I think that the "turbo" design is over used and I really don't want to put a truck on my truck. I'd like to see something a bit different (kinda like the people who seem to hang out here :poke: ). As off the wall as the lighthouse or lobster ideas was, at least they were trying to come up with something unique.

I don't really have a big stake in this club. I've wandered down on a few Fridays night, met some nice, helpful, crazy people. You guys are the core of the group, it's really up to you. I think if you give it a little more time, you can come up with a design that's different than all the other turbo diesel clubs and also captures what you are all about.

Art, I'm just throwing out ideas. Everything I've done so far is kinda crude, I just cut/copy things into a graphics program. I'm really not very good at actually designing and I'm not sure what is behind creating decals (what works/doesn't work). Al would be the guy to really come up with a final product, especially if it means adding color.

i have a GFY t-shirt.... jealous? my girl made it, i had offered her services last year to make stickers for the club for free in exchange for a plug for her sign/lettering business but nobody got back to me. i bought her a vinyl cutter ($$$) and $oftware a couple years ago, and i got her a lot of free vinyl for the project, mostly white,black,yellow and silver metallic.. she's a whiz on the design programs, i will have her give the mitre-stacked turbo lobster a whirl, she's always up for a challenge. p.m. me for gfy stickers if you'd like, i don't want to step on anybody's toes doing club stickers unless it is cool with the higher-ups. :idea:

I would say get in touch with him through his website, I had him do a little sticker project for me a few weeks ago and they came out 100% mint. I dont think he is on the net too often other then to check his emails.

I ordered the club decal from Al a few or couple of weeks ago off his website. I got them promptly and they look real nice. I'm waiting until spring to install at this point tho. Check him out on his website...
