Found this Parleys diesel video and after watchin it i thought that installin a fuel plate would be somewat easy to do. At 2:42 they are taking the break away bolt out they i still dont know wat they are doin are they usin the hammer and chisel to unscrew the bolt??? was on TST lookin at there install intructions and its seems more complicated than that. is installin the fuel plate that easy and is this video a good guide line soo i could do it myself (when its warm out lol)?? Also since i dont have money to buy and install somewhere. would the best way to get the break away bolt chisel a notch in the head to use a flat head screwdriver so i could resuse the bolt if it is that easy i would like to move the stock plate full forward.
THANKS

i drill a small hole in the top of the bolt and then drive a torx bit into the hole and back it out. take it to your hardware store and buy a replacement that isnt tamperproof. fuel plate install is a 3 out of 10 difficulty wise.

you use the chisel to break the head off of the bolt, or an air chisel would work better if you have it.

I purchased the 10 plate and install video from TST a few years ago. it was good, but much less refined and not as well shot than this video (also on VHS UGH ), but the former Cummins engineer that was in the video took the time to explain quite a bit, IIRC. While this video is good, it isn't a 10 minute operation and the guy doesn't say what the torque specs are on some of the bolts.. I liked one shot where he said "ya, just right" but I don't think he was using a torque wrench anyway... LOL

Either way, it's an easy enough thing to do, like Jim said a 3 outta 10. First time is intimidating, but after the 2nd or third time, nothing to it... and you'll be in there more than once after you've done it once :smilielol:

video sums it up pretty well. as stated first time is a little intimidating but really not that bad, and once you open it up once I garentee that you will open it up a couple more times adjusting it.

You use the chisel to make a cut in the bolt so you can turn it with a flat screw driver. If you break the head off the screw how do you get the rest of it out.

drill it out....maybe. it really doesn't matter how it comes out. there is more than one way to do something.

Yeah drilling it out would be much easier. :smilielol:

That is my thought exactly.
dieselnomad that video from TST would that be worth the WHOLE $10 investment does it include torque specs and all that??
Its only that god damn bolt that keeps turnin me away cuz if i .... that up im screwed. Its jus the first time i needed to do it then it would be like ridin a bike lol need to build up my confidence to do it and some weather in the 60s would help 2 :smilielol: jus need as much info on to get that bolt out will help and drillin it WTF is that would u retap the hole aswell :smilielol:

dont listen to a word ryan says drilling is NOT GOOD ADVISE. use a chisel and if you hit it on one side and at an angle it should break loose then get it to spin 1 turn and you should be able to remove it by hand. Shouldnt take more than an hour MAX even messing with that break off screw.

I just pounded a small torx bit into the little hole on the top of mine. Came right out. They aren't tight anyways.

That seems the safest and easiest way of doin this. wat size torx bit did u use and did u us it with a attachment to a 1/4" or 3/8" extension then jus hit it with a hammer or mallet?

On a side note how much HP would i gain slidin stock plate full forward and would a pyro gauge be needed?

about 30-50 hp if your going to tow id get a pyro to play it safe.

I used the hammer and chisel method on the service truck. :woohoo: It worked great! Just go to Pep-Boys or Tractor Supply and match it up with a regular bolt.

I dont remember what size it was, something like T15. :dunno: Whatever almost fits in the hole. Yeah put a 1/4 drive extention on it to get it out there.

Should be a 6mm X 10mm X 1.50 pitch. Don't quote me on that.

lol im with you once i break the break off screw it is no longer considered a nice "STOCK" 12 valve. you dont find to many 95's like mine with 50K on the clock

yep you said it man, WE WONT LISTEN TO YOU im sure by doing your fuel plate thats what got you to over 300hp at the dyno day in october @ dez's right? b/c if i remeber correctly you didnt break the 300 mark you were figuring for.......:stirthepot:

actually he made 254 or 256.... i remember asking him as he rolled into the dyno how much he was hoping to make, and he was saying something in the low to mid 300s, and when i asked him about his mods, he said he only had BHAF, straight pipe and a plate and starwheel tweak LOL...... i just stood there thinking, wow this kid has NO IDEA what hes talking about if hes expecting those numbers out of those mods LOL

yup, only 256 stock slipping tranny will do that to you as everyone on this forum knows... go to tst's website, and tell me what it says for tst 5 plate it says 270 /675. and thats a 5 plate. so how are you gonna say a 0 plate isn't more fuel than a 5 plate????? :exactly: so with your transmission, and a clean fuel filter my truck probably would have hit 300 or so. i'll find out in the spring time. im gonna redyno my truck as is + a some kinda tranny hopefully. but i don't have a stock exhaust anymore, trucks timed, wastegate plugged, boost elbow in, so theres a few more varibles in the mix. it should be interesting.

a flathead screwdriver will work as a chisel too if it's a pain to get a chisel in there.

you know there are 182 different ways to use a screwdriver and a wrachet.

I usually go after it with the acetylene torch. Jim's seen me. We should do the video with Jim chasing me around with the fire extingusher. Sell it to TST.

Ill see wat happens when it comes to it most likey poundin a torx bit into it and takin it out but after takin the screw out can i reuse it or would i have to go to autozone and get a replacement screw like everyone is sayin wish there was a nice semi warm weekend around the corner :smilielol: or at school if the shop is not full of equipment
