I was thiking of saving up and buying a fuelmeisterII so I was wondering if anyone knows of any short or long term problems with there trucks when using homemade bio diesel but from a kit like the Fuelmeister, the only problem i can think of is just the vp 44 getting gummed up, but the fuelmeister seems like it would be cleaner casue your not doing it the homemade cheap way . So is a kit like this going to produce cleaner fuel and would i not have to worry about vp problems as much by going with a kit like the fuel meister
Open to anybodys ideas and knowledge

I ran strained veggie in my truck. Didn't make a true bio, just mixed the veggie with the diesel. Had no issues.

Mark,
Jim said you ran a 50% WVO mix in the warmer weather, true??

Yep, had quite a few people around to witness.

I've been down to the shop on a friday night, you may have had witnesses, but credible witnesses?? :poke: But you and Jim I believe..
Looks like I'll try 10 gals WVO per tank next....

Just make sure it wont be below freezing and get some medium mesh filters from a paint supply house to filter you will be a-ok
go something like this:

I put in 2 gal of motor oil today I had hanging around with no use for the weight, so I threw it in. Would have put in more, but the tank filled up to the top of the neck:eek:

Make sure you don't use a container that has gear oil in it... :nutkick: :smilielol:
yep that stuff has a tendency to clog fuel filters.:stirthepot:

First he heat the oil in the sun, then run it thru a filter sox into a 50 gal drum. I believe the drum has a block of salt in the bottom to help absorb water. Then he heats it up to 130 for a day. Next he wait for his wife to be out of the house or taking a nap, he sneaks into the kitchen and put a tablespoon or so of the oil into a heavy skillet, to test for water. If it passes, he pumps it thru two 5 micron filters and into clean cubes or another 50 gallon holding tank. It's a cool setup he has.

The corner diner has oil from the deep fryer he said I could have. Just filter it and pour it in? Or do I have to do more to it?

its very complicated.....you get the wvo, then you filter it into a new container, then you pour it into your tank when the weather is nice and won't go below freezing.... kinda like that turkey rotisserie infomericial.....set it and forget it!

Pete, if you're mixing it in your tank with good old pump diesel that might be OK. My friend runs his VW on straight veggie, so he has to process it a bit more.
I got 3.5 gal of wmo in the tank as we speak, effectively making price per gal $3.62 further reports to follow.:smokin:

Jim, I don't think the VP trucks will handle that much WMO. I put the 3 gals in mine once and it didn't run very well.

Dave, yeah, I figured no more than 50%, summer only. If I have to do a bunch of refining to it, I ain't gonna! :nutkick:
Thanks! :HoleShotHolset:

Thanks! :HoleShotHolset:Well, at 50% you might want to check to be sure there's not a bunch of water in it. That might happen if your corner diner fries a lot of frozen foods. Heat a skillet up on a hot plate (or stove), then put a tablespoon of so of your filtered oil in. If it splatters and pops a bunch, it's got water in it. From what I'm told, that would be kinda bad inside your engine... :nutkick:
well I made it to work tonight with no funny sounds or misses, when it was idiling when I first started it up saw some light blue smoke, I never looked before so who knows it may be normal. Was all cleared up once the truck was up to temp, and the exhaust had less of that pungent diesel odor. gonna add another gallon tomorrow.

not sure what you had in it for fuel when i came down for the twins but it was hazing at idle when cold then. I remamber seeing it I know my truck does the same thing when cold

Jim, what's the timing now on the '95? I noticed blue smoke on my truck after the time was above 16* Could be the cold too.
I wish you could hear my truck.... I think timing has slipped forward, sounds like it's 20-22* right now.. really rasp'y and hard to start in the cold.
I dont think timing could slip forward, unless your truck was running backwards:idea:
Evan I had just straight fuel then, and Art the timing is @ 18°.
Well a 30° start this am with no difficulty, no more smoke then usual, so far 3.5 gal of WMO to a almost full tank of #2 is OK.:HoleShotHolset: Now to see about another gallon.

I've read and heard that timing can slip either way, advanced or decreased. I had it set at 18* but I don't know if it's still there...
That's good to read about the WMO. I'm going to start doing that again next fill-up.
up to 4.5 gal and still running strong.:HoleShotHolset:

just make sure that the truck didnt take another maiden voyage down a hill again and make friends with a tree

I don't think it would be a maiden. It lost it's cherry to the oak the last time it was there. :falldownlaugh:

Now up to 7 gal in the same tank (thanks for changing your oil on fri AJ)! I have 250ish miles on this tank of fuel and with adding the WMO Im still at 3/4 of a tank:woohoo:
the exhaust sure does smell different, and it hazes blue on startup, but other then that no issues!

03-30-2008, 06:27 PM
At my last fill up I added 2-3 gal of WMO, that was then cut with 25 - 27 gal of diesel. Truck runs fine, but it's definitely smoking a lot. At idle, while hot, bluish smoke.. I'm not sure it's good for it, who knows what's in the oil............
when hot, mine cleans right up!:dunno:

Hey man, I remember almost a year ago you extended this offer. I'm game. I'd like to meet up and compare notes and see how you produce biodiesel. When is good for you? I'll try and work around your schedule / other's schedules. Thanks!! :woohoo:

I would deffinitly like to see your operation. I also want to see that m37 you have. I had one that I bought to restor but had to sell because I had bills to pay before I could start the restore. Awsome vehicles 50 years old started all the time and had great oil pressure once the leaks were fixed. Mine now resides on cliff island off of portland me.

I'd be interested in coming and seeing your bio operation but won't be home till early May.
On another note......
For the past year I have been dumping my waste fluids into a 55 gallon drum, that I now want to use for WVO filtering/storage. The drum has antifreeze, WMO, and a few quarts of ATF..... can I boil/centrifuge it out to get to the WMO/atf only or should I just find somewhere to get rid of all the crap? If so where? And the side of the road is not an option :professor:
Any ideas?
Oh BTW 97 12 valve that I plan on running on SVO with two tanks come summer time.
