Truck has been sitting in the driveway rusting away because my starter had the clicks. dont have the money for a whole new one but i bought a aftermarket contact and plunger kit from larry b's. had the guys up at massdiesel put it in and now i have a whole new starter. i can finally turn the key and know my truck will start. its a nice peice of mind.

heres the old contacts

I'd haveta be guessin' that was the problem! :smilielol:
I tried to put contacts in my 89. When I got it back in, it still didn't work. When I got it on the bench again, I tore it farther apart, and found the brushes and most all else was gone it there. A buck and a half at PepBoys and all was well again! :woohoo:

Jimbo, how difficult of a job is this? Mine is clicking also...

Not bad at all, Mark. Just have to be patient when tightening the lugs down, the contacts try to turn with the bolt a little. I'd say, 30 minutes once the starter is out.

Starter come out easy?

Starter come out easy?

That's your opinion! :nutkick:

I don't think it's too bad. Need a 10mm 12 point wrench for the top bolt, usually tightened at the factory by a guy that looks like Deo's avatar. The rest of it is only the wires and bottom (normal) bolt. Spray the nuts on the wires if they look crusty or rusty.
PS, it's a heavy little bugger.

Yea, I"d say spray the unit with some PB blaster the evening before and it'll reduce the force and effort to remove the unit. Otherwise, pretty simple overall. I've done mine twice  :nutkick:

mark you will have to jack your truck up to get under (2wd sled) but its not a bad job at all very easy.

I got to my top bolt on the starter with a 10mm socket, a swivel, and about 8 feet of extensions. :professor:

Kinda hard to go anywhere when I can just barely afford the fuel to go to work. I just got my school tax bill. $1600. :nutkick:
If I ever see my wife with a credit card in her hand again, I may end up in jail.
I guess I won't have to worry about the bills though.

Tomorrow I am going to take the starter out (As it is doing me NO good in the truck now) and if the plunger is not worn I will take you up on that offer.

Muz, The orders are being filled. I came in on the last in line and was coming in on the end of the backorder.
