Sounds pretty good. How does that major work? Are they going to train you on all sorts of equipment or more on some machines than others? Will you be planning on moving back to MA and working? Do you have or have you looking into getting a hoisting engineer's license in MA? Just curious, luckily the test for the license is pretty easy, I been thinking I would love to find a job running some equipment on the weekends or something to give me something enjoyable after work or other than sitting at a computer all day.

EDIT: Maybe I am way off lol, just assuming heavy equipment operator is going to be running excavators and loaders and the such, but thinking now it could be some other industrial thing.

I'm a machinist at a small place in town. Been at it almost 12yrs now both manual and CNC plus CAM and engineering design. I make stuff for my truck when the boss isn't looking :smokin:

In the past I've also worked on a big apple orchard and been a heavy equipment operator/mechanic - both the old style cable machines and hyrdaulic. I wouldn't do that again in this state unless it was a good union job. Way too much BS with laws, permits, fees and licences.

Good to hear, sounds like a pretty good program. I figured if you didn't have it I could forward some stuff and you could go and take the test before ya went off to school and be ahead of the game.

Not sure if it was the same for you other guys with your licences but was that test a joke or what lol. I dunno maybe I just got used to standardized tests and though it would be similar but repeat questions sometimes twice and some silly questions IMO. One that still sticks out from my 2A test was this one.

Hand signal question for a gradall. Showed the machine with an arrow above the boom pointing back towards the cab, and then showed the signal man with his hands in a fist down by his waist and his thumbs both pointing in towards his belt buckle.

A.) Extend Boom
B.) Retract Boom
C.) Run over Signal Man
d.) none of the above

I dunno maybe I am missing something that that about nearly made me crack up laughing when I read that. I had to cover my mouth to try and not disturb the others lol. After reading it I coulda sworn the signal man had a evil grin on his face too lol :dunno:

Sucks being stuck in an office all day :nutkick:

High-speed data networking and disaster recovery (data). I work for a large global company. Chances are you've never used a product I work on... but, on the other hand, your bank probably has... :HoleShotHolset:

Lots of days I'm tied to a desk. Other days I'm in rooms that resemble factories. When necessary I will travel, and there are no restrictions.

The co I work for is on the i495 corridor in MA

Prior to this, I worked for the same company but on wall street. Very stressful. If you read a post here from me as abrupt, it's nothing.. :falldownlaugh: :)

My buddy who drives for Hallsmith-Sysco keeps trying to get me to go and work with him. I would love to do it but have a few other obligations that keep me in my current job. Guess I will have to get my diesel truck fill with my pickup, but its just not the same. Maybe I'll go and sit in the seat of the excavator later today so I don't go bonkers lol.

That's cool, you and jdc work in the same town, right? I live one town away from there. We should still do the chicken bone sometime! :)

I realize my last post was kinda pretentious- I do computer stuff, mostly networking and data recovery stuff. I have security clearances that are pretty restrictive so that's all I can really say :dunno:

I'd like to be an arborist some day though. :HoleShotHolset: (one way I put myself through school)

I live 10 min from that place. Have had a few pints plus and some chicken there, it's a good time. That's what I was talking about, not what YOU were talking about. :falldownlaugh:

p.s. they have live music too! I should host a NETDP festival with an outting there followed up with a test-n-tune drag racing in the nearby industrial park followed by camping in my back yard, or wood lot, whichever is preferred... lol
