Anyone else have this problem: From a dead stop I nail it. 1st gear no problem, 2nd gear no problem until I hit max rpm and defuel. It is a hesitation for a split, I mean split second. 3rd gear no problem cause rpm's are higher. I think I may need a BD RAD or something that eleminates max rpm defueling. What are your thoughts for those that know what I'm talking about. I should mention that I have 410's in the rear.

Can't you change your de-fuel with the FMS???

Yes, EGT defuel only. I have that set to unlimited or off. This is a RPM problem in 2nd gear. Remind me on Friday if we both make it to Derby (by the way what happened last Fri?) and I'll give ya a spin.

That's a good question because I need to watch the road under the circumstances if ya know what I mean. I am hitting the redline on the tach when I glance at it. I just want more, so the truck does not stumble under WOT in 2nd gear. I imagine it is not very good for the tranny also. It's gotta kill a good second or so in the 1/4 mile too. I think the BD RAD addresses this issue for those of us with torque mangement. I would be interested in other options.

Mines never done that, neither has my Dad's 01.Did it always do this or just start? What is your fuel press when its doing it,also RPM when ti does it.The defueling problem is primarliy below 15 mph, your 2-3 shift, even with 4.10s should be at 45+mph,shouldn't be an issue by then.

Hey Tim,
I dont know if you've considered this or if this would help any.... But what about an ADD(Anti Defueling Device) from haisley machine? :dunno:

SMARTY is suppose to help with torque management and raise the rpm defuel point. My truck did the 2nd gear defuel the last time you and Eli were in my truck. It's not easy looking at the tach when you are slamming 2nd gear and the truck is sideways. I'll get to the bottom of this soon.

Tim,
Could it just be your Converter UNLOCKING @ WOT?
I know that when I switch off my Smart controller it will do the same. When it is switched on I have the gain turned up to max so the converter CANNOT NO WAY NO HOW UH UH Unlock @ WOT.
(Just a thinkin')

That could be Tim, it happens for a millisecond (if there is such a word). I spoke to a friend of mine today who has an 01 that does the same thing. He uses a BD RAD when he is playin, and all is well. I think I just hit the rpm defuel limit in second gear. I need a smart controller anyways, so I will start with that. Oh, and while I got ya here: YOUR FORUMS MODERATOR IS STIRRING THE POT!!!!!!!

Is your FMS set on kill when this is happening?
Does it do it on other settings? FMS or Smarty??

No, no and no, it happens whenever I mash it WOT for a good distance. Funny thing: I posted my prob. on the BD Forum asking about the RAD. The RAD is only for 1st and 2nd gear anti defueling. A guy at BD responded saying torque management should not be an issue in 2nd gear. What I'm saying is that I hit the rpm limit in 2nd gear (i believe) a quick defuel, then back, then a quick shift to 3rd.

How about some 3.73s instead of tow truck gears? :falldownlaugh: :stirthepot:

I can get 114 mph out of my truck with 4.10 and 285 tires. It did 111 mph and change in the 1/4 mi.
Autos have .69 OD ratio, the 6 speed have a .73 or so.doesnt sound like a big difference, but it is. I run about 2000RPM at 70 mph with my 4.10's,my buddies 6 speed 3.55 run 1950 RPM at 70 mph, not a big difference.
