Driving around in the snow last night prompted my BRAKE and ABS light to come on at random... What would cause this? The system was definitely getting a work out last night considering the fact that I don't drive like your grandma when the white stuff flies. I checked the 2 wires that go to the tone ring in the hub bearing unit they are in tacked. I flashed the ECM and PCM for codes and got a 0500 and 1691 which Ive yet to look up. Anybody have any other ideas? Could this get expensive?

TIA, Aaron

Oh man! Looks like 1691 IS NOT GOOD!:smilielol:

P1691 Fuel Injection Pump Controller
Calibration Error
Internal fuel injection pump failure. Low power, engine
derated, or engine stops.

Probably has something to do with my failing lift up and 130k+ miles on the stock VP.:TqT:

dont sweat the 1691 too much its the 0216 thats the killer.

as far as abs maybe sno packed in the front hubs if you have front ABS?

Aaron, I'm not sure about the ABS light coming on, but yesterday while driving around my BRAKE light on the dash kept flashing and every now and then it would stay on. I found I could manipulate it by just barely touching the parking brake pedal. And then when I looked under my truck I saw the cable was all covered with built up ice/snow crap and I thought maybe the weight of that was enough to trigger the dash light :dunno: I don't think our trucks have front ABS do they Jim?

4 wheel ABS was an option up till 02 or something like that when it started coming standard.... your tone rings might have gotten bunged up with dirt and salt and chit. Check your brake fluid, if its down it will set the lights off. Sometimes when I do brake lines on a dodge I have to go out and stand on the brakes from about 50mph to get the two lights to go off. Try doing that a couple times today and see if it helps. Its probably not the ice on the cables as the sensor is in the pedal and it shouldn't move your pedal.

Well, I let the truck idle for about 45 minutes today and when I got back in it the lights were off. I drove about 5 miles and tryed the ABS it works again... Maybe it was just debris or ice or something. Im going outside right now to check the fluid.

Hmmm maybe thats what Warpig plugged in on my truck the night you put your tranny in. When he was looking under the hood he noticed there were some wires unplugged and plugged them in. On the way home that night my abs and brake lights were flashing. I played around with them the next day tightened the connections a lil and they stopped flashing randomly. I can still get them to go off by pulsing the pedal though so :dunno: might need new brakes if everything is working properly... or I can continue downshifting like I do on a everyday basis:smilielol: Think I should look into this or forget it:dunno:

imo i like to keep my brakes in the best condition i can, becuase while downshifting will slow you down signifcantly ultimately you need your brakes to work good too. I would look into it and see what going on.

Aaron, the 0500 is nothing. I used to get them all the time when spinning tires in snow or wet road.

Ryan, My old 12 valve had 4 wheel ABS. Its pretty common. Worked on plenty that have had it.

ABS brakes in my opinion SUCK. I'd rather have the regular ones, I've pulled the fuse on all my previous vehicles for the ABS and then pulled the light bulb out of the dash so the light isn't on, but I haven't gotten into my new one yet. The ABS makes it feel like you AREN'T stopping. A good driver should be able to control his own brakes. Another insurance company gimmick.

oh maybe my fuse is missing or something :dunno: doesn't really matter my truck stops very quick in the rain or the snow.

Well it pretty easy to check if you got fronts or not champ. Before you hop in your truck later, look in the inside of one of the front wheels. you'll most likely see a wheel speed sensor in the hub assembly and a cable of somesort running to it. Quit making such a big deal about everything.
