Hey all, just wondering. Anyone know what the approximate scrap value of a 97 2500 reg cab long bed would be. Everything would be in the truck minus engine/trans/radiator/intercooler i.e. powerplant transplant.

Thanks,
Steve

last week scrap was at 120 #1 prepared, 80 #2 prepared so cars cant be worth any more than 80 a ton. over the summer you could get 800 a truck. but as diesel97 said its way down now

I was at the scrap yard today working on their machine. Guy was telling me the bottom fell right out. They laid off 20 workers, and were working 40 hr weeks. Last time I was there in the fall, the mechanics never worked less than 60 hrs. Saturdays were mandatory. I was shocked by how empty the yard was. Piles are only about 15 feet high. Last time they were as high as they could pile them with those big excavators.

Burritoboi5, is the rear axle a LSD? And what gears? I might be interested in it.

Last week someone mentioned that Albert Bros. in Waterbury was only paying $.85/lb for copper. It wasn't long ago we were cashing in at over $3/lb!

A year and a half ago, you would have made some bucks on that bad boy :exactly:

Hmmm in that case it looks like I'll be holding onto the truck and not parting it out for the motor... Rearend is a 3.54 non LSD BTW not that it's all that relevant anymore. If anyone knows of a 12V 6bt with an nv4500 they are looking to move let me know though, or a 4bt... having trouble making up my mind

Is the back half in decent shape? Bed, frame, tires? I've had a project in mind and have been looking for beatup junker.

Just was playing with the idea of scrapping it to put the drivetrain in another project but it looks like I am better off buying another truck to get the 12 valve from.
