Hey all,
Yet again my truck has taken a :ShizenWinder: on me and im gonna be paying out the :Signal73: for it. I am wondering what the best way to go is.

Here is the rundown on what is going on. I belive i found the problem, and is is leaking where the fan shroud rubs. I believe it finalluy gave way from me using the fan shroud as a climb handle.

should i braze the radiator or just replace the whole thing. As far as i could tell here on campus that isit. i may tare into it when i get home but i dont know if i feel like it.

thanks all,
John

Is that a copper radiator or an aluminum/plastic one? If it's the al/pl, maybe you can fix it with JB weld or the like. I fixed the radiator on the wifes Astrovan like that, the shroud had broken and rubbed a hole thru the core. I brake cleanered it, heated it with the propane torch, sanded it a little and put the goo on. I used Loctite brand, Loc-Weld, worked great, never leaked again. :woohoo:

i realize that just wanted to make sure you knew it was... lol

u think jb weld is a good idea for a cheap easy fix... dont liek to be a hack but the funds are not meat to be spent on the truck but more so the school funds

ummmm. not too sure. with the pressure in the rad it would have to be a fine JB weld job to hold.....But hack pete did it so it works! give it a shot. May be able to pull the fan/shroud. prob easier then pulling the rad?

Drain it, sand it, and alternately spray and heat about 2-3 times. That's what I did. I then put the stuff on, and squeezed the hole shut a little, then added more. I let it sit overnite before I filled back up. I refused to buy a radiator for the POS van, so that was the other option.
The wife drove it for about 2 years before we got rid of it.
Good luck John!

the hole is in the top row of vains so i believe i can just spray her clean and then sand and fill the hole... mabe mabe not.... 300 for a new radiator is steep

throw some black pepper in there that will stop the sob from leaking. then buy a new one when you get money. my radiator leaked back in december and i just bought a new one from the radiator store. and it was 350ish for an aluminum/plastic one. no more problems.

i have a tube of jb weld hot and base laying around so im gonna try it. If i can get it to hold, the truck may be going up for sale.... hide the problems and get decent chunk of change for it

if its in the aluminum part and you can get a torch on in, the welding suppliers sell this stuff similar to braze called alumeloid. sticks to aluminum only once you heat the surface to 700 degrees or so. the stuff looks like thicker brazing rods.
