Anyone replaced the front drivers side axle seal? Wondering how much of a project I am in for. Any hints ect. Done a passenger side on a 1500 and it sucked hoping maybe the driverside is better.

My 95 1/2 ton was inside by the carrier. I was told I had to pull the carrier to install a new one. I let the prick leak. I did check the oil about twice a year. Sometimes. :smilielol:

that would be a project just dont like having the oil on the inside wheel well. With that amount of work ill probably just keep putting oil in it. I know the pass side was accessed by the axle 4wd actuator

Just did mine yesterday on a Dana 60 that was inside next to the carrier. It had to come out but all in all not a bad job at all.

feel thankful you dont have a 3rd gen. cant even get the damn hubs out to do the seal. spent 6 hours at least today trying to get the hub assembly out of the passenger side to get to the bad wheel joint.:TqT:

Lonestar, I just recently did them on an 04 with 167,000 mi on it, not fun. If it wasn't for a rosebud tip I would have never gotten them out.

according to miller time, it shoulda just popped out using an impact socket wedged between the u-joint and axle tube turning the wheel. that didnt work so good. i soaked the crap out of it with pb blaster and got a new hub today since the old one is damaged now. time to break out the torch and do a little convincing.

Note to self, if getting a 3rd gen remove front hubs and never seize to death ASAP.

Thanks guys, another reason to stay outta the 2000 and up trucks. :falldownlaugh:

Lonestar, If you need a hand let me know, I'm just over in trumbull, a regular torch tip won't cut it you will need a rosebud tip and the impact socket on the bolt, also when you turn the wheel have the truck running.

gently maneuvered it back through the seal and it went right in. everything went back together much easier than it came apart
