Wondering what it takes to setup a 47rh trans to operate. Does it use any signals from the pcm ect? How about the 47re? Thinking I might stick an auto behind my old motor in my m37/6bt swap. Wondering what it would take to make it work properly (I am a 5 spd guy and dont know anything about autos) . If it uses any pcm signals does anyone know of stand alone trans controlers I could use? Trying to make the electonics as simple as possible. But for what I am planning I am thinking the 5 spd wont hold up/ just doesnt make sence unfortunitly :TqT:

i think you would need a pcm and a TPS to control the 47rh. most of it is mechanical anyways. probably the same with the 47re. i believe the 47rh is longer than the 47re

the length doesnt bother me its the electronics I hate wiring guess ill have to see about a stand alone controller

Buddy, you don't want a 47RE. I have one in the 97 and I'm tearing my hair out trying to get it to stop throwing codes. It might be as simple as a bad sensor, or over voltage to it. I had the scanner on it the other day and it said it was 308 degrees. The truck hadn't been run in 3 days! Then the next day it said it was 108, and with the truck running it didn't go up any. Then when I get that figured out, I think it's going to need a rebuild because it was in limp mode, which starts out in 2nd and short shifts, and the PO ran the siht out of it. :nutkick:

I think the 47RH only needs a lockup wire (other than the normal neutral safety and backup wires), but I'm not real familiar with those either.

the thing is is you don't know if it's the pcm on the 47re that's causing the problem, lines, or the electric parts in the valve body:dunno: i usually don't hear too much bad like that about the 47re except the gov pressure solenoid (and of the course the internal weak parts)

Tom, that's what I'm trying to figure out. I've been working with a guy on TDR that had lots of problems with his. He says the high voltage can be fixed with a resistor. I did that and it didn't change anything. I just got my FSM and am going to go thru the wiring next and look for a short or bare wires. The damn FSM for this puppy is 2 books as thick as the 1 for my 1st gen. The schematics are a little different, so I have to learn them as I go. It's all broken down to individual wires, makes it tough to follow where they go. The good thing is I got a spare trans with it. Now if I didn't burn up the other solenoid and temp/pressure sender by putting them in I'm ok.:dunno:

Evan, how about an older 518? Simple auto trans, 727 with OD, no lockup. Just buy a good converter and a shift kit for it. :woohoo:

how much power can they hold hoping to go over 600 hopefully near or above 700 can those old trans take the abuse? Planning 38" mud tires and still want to drag race both on pavement and in the mud. Also would a manual valvebody eliminate electronics? Yet allow me to manually control what gear it stays in?

what about a 518 from a 93 WITH overdrive? all of the trannies should be able to hold over 600hp if built properly

they cost about the same to build? Dont see many parts listed usually. Also do they bolt up to the same bellhousing adaptor?

call mark at new england trans they have standalone systems 207-767-3269

Tom, that's what I just said. All a 518 is is a 727 with OD.
Very simple trans, will hold lots of power, and parts are easy to come by. If you get 1 from a diesel, it will bolt right up to the adapter. If you put in a manual VB, it will stay in whatever you put it in. You still have to have electricity for the OD, but it's just 12 volts, on or off.

i thought you said without OD.

An RH only needs power and 2 switchable grounds to control L/U and O/D. The shifting is controlled by a mechanical governor.
