i saw one in the summit catalog and it said it fit the diesels models as well.
anyone bought one or seen one? i would love to shorten up the throw on my 2001 dually 5 speed ,if its possible..just don't want to spend $250.00 in case its not the right kit.

Don't know about making one, not really sure what they look like.
Maybe you can get some info out of BD...

The distance from the ball to the bottom end of the stick is longer, and a spacer plate goes in between the trans and the cover. It changes the leverage/length.
I already chirp the tires going onto 3rd, I don't wanna think about the wreckage I could cause with one of these! :notworking:

any idea how much longer? i have a friend who is a great fabricator and can make almost anything...i wonder if i can extend the stock one and make a spacer plate.................:exactly:
I know Junior on here has one and I THINK Aweik02, has one, can be mistaken on that one tho

Extending it might be a no-no! It has a lot of torque on it, probably a 10:1 ratio. You know length of top divided by the length of the close ratio 3 speed, minus the coefficient of the fricken guy on the handle...... or somethin like that! :professor:
What I mean is, I don't think it will hold if you weld it! :exactly: But, if you add an inch, and make an inch spacer, that's what you want. :smokin:

I have the BD short shift kit for the 4500. I is kind of hard to explain the new piece but i will give it a try. I believe they lengthen the bottom of the shifter(from the pivots down)by 10-15mm. So to make up for this there is a spacer that goes between the original shifter housing and top of trans. Then the top of the shifter (pivot to top of threads shorter) basically less movement up top but increases the throw on the bottom in the trans.
There is a realy good thread over at TDR about some guys making there own and trying to make the throw shorter but the conclusion was trying to make the throw shorter than BD's it became realy notchy and and hard to get in gear. As for him making it on his own he said he would just have bought one and saved a lot of time and money on metal fabrication(he owned his own fabrication shop if i remember correctly)
As for how it is. I should have done it 142,000 miles ago. The shifting is tight and sweet. Makes a huge difference.
Email or pm if you have any questions you can think of
