You need to be careful which Dana 60 you are looking for because they made 4-5 different versions.

1. 78-79
2. 80-88 I think
3. 89-98
4. 98-present We will refer to it as Super duty Style

The one u are looking for it a 80 to 89 Pivot Bearing (commonly referred to as a "King Pin" style) That is a drivers side differential with a high pinion.

If you currently have a 86 250 2 or 4 wheel drive you most likely have a Dana 60, Dana 61 or possibly a 10.25 sterling rear axle.

The number 1, 2, or 3 in the above descriptions will work but the # 4 will require different wheels cuz 1,2, & 3 are 8 on 6.5 but # 4 is 8 on 180 mm. Look the same but totally different.

In the # 1 style the differential is about 4" closer tot he center line of the truck which could work but you will have a tough time finding one in good shape

In the # 3 style instead of pivot bearings it has ball joints which also work but it just depends on what u want, I prefer pivot bearings.

If u decide to go to the #4 be careful cuz they also made a Dana 50 which looks exactly like a 60 but the parts are no where near as strong.

I did a ton of research before doing my solid axle swap in my Dakota I hope u can use what im passing along.

So what u should say is you are looking for up to a 1988 style of axle and all Fords have a high pinion.

If u get one from a 88 style it will be a direct bolt in application.
