Hey Guy's have not pulled the trigger just yet on this deal but it looks like the Truck that I have alway's wanted. That is a 98 quad cab 12v 4x4 Sport with an auto trans and 3:55 gears. I almost pulled the trigger on a truck like this a while ago but changed my mind because of cost and practicality. Well I have waited patiantly and have decided that I am going to attempt to make my own 12v 4x4 Sport with an auto trans! I'm using a 98 V10 4x4 Sport and will be joining it with my 95 12V drivetrain.
Now the swapp appears preaty straight forward but I am unsure and have not been able to find much on the harness deal. I was thinking that if I can find a 12v 98 I'll simply swapp harness's and go from there. Worst case I can try to use the 95 but the V10 is a loaded truck and the 12v had few options.
As far as the trans go's I can use the 47rh but would rather use the 47re because there are very few miles on it and if I can find a harness it should work? There are some things that I have read like the converter being differant ( stall speed) and I heard something aboout the gov. Weights being differant? Not sure if this is true because the Re is an electronic trans?
Anyone out there done this or similer swapps? I love my Commen Rail but have been missing the feel of a 12V truck for some time and can't wait until I can drive it again!
Thanks

Biggest problem your going to have is not with the swap but with CT emissions.

Talk to me Jim whats the deal on this? I have every intention of talking to the Moter vehical people before I get started. Seems to me that it should be leagal since the emissions of these trucks( 95&98 years) are very similer being 12v's. I would think that as long as there is a converter I should be good to go?? I will be headed down there on Saterday to bring my Son for the dreaded learners permit maybe I can get some info then...Hmm begining to think that if this is a big hassel it will then be time to get a vehical that is 25 plus years......
Any thoughts on the swapp otherwise?

96 and newer can use an OBDII test for emissions, and a 12V cannot link up to the system. Give em a call, Hopefully you can prove me wrong! Worse comes to worse you can reg it as commercial and you dont have to do it anyways then. (for now) Dont forget CT follows Cali guidelines for emissions and we all know how awesome CARB is:crazy:

thats pretty wild! When I had my 02 with the 12V in it they were doing the rollers. Then they switched to the snap test ( it would have failed) Now with the OBDII they are using that for anything they can cause its the easiest thing going.

Well went out there to take a look at the truck and I have to say that This is the truck that I always wanted! The truck needs lower doors and the bed will need some work or I may just replace it if I can find a six footer. Other than that The engine has a broken rocker arm and or valve spring not sure yet until I dig in a bit furher the trany only has 15k on it and was built for towing. So if for some reason I cant get a good game plan for the 12v install I might Leave the v10 in it? Jim what do you think the best way to do thIs is? I was thinking if there was a way that I could dig up a harnees for a 98 diesel that would be the way to go? Or I can try to make the 98 harness work with the 95 Pcm harness? I have been looking around on the net and so far I have very few answers....
Lmk what you think Jim and if you know anyone with a six foot bed lmk.
Thanks Ralph

You're going to have to swap the converter because the diesel is 1 inch thicker than the gasser.

Yea I was told that the converter wouldn't work for a couple differant reasons. The big issu that I am worried about is the emissions. At some point this week I have to go down to the Dmv and get the low down on this. Then I have to figure out just how to make this engine work in the 98 gasser....
I have had no luck locating a 98 12v harness....

.... Or move to NH because anything flies here... no emission testing on diesels.. it will pass as long as there is no codes (cross a few wires and your good) :falldownlaugh:
