hello all, i'm new on this forum. saw a guy in wal-mart the other day with a n.e.t.d.p. shirt on and decided to check it out. i was wondering if there's anywhere i can still get #2 low sulfur diesel in northern mass or southern new hampshire. i bought my duramax in late 06 and got a few months of lsd before all the stations near me switched to ULSD. my mileage dropped by about 2 mpg. i heard truck stops would be a good bet. anybody? :Signal73:

Exit 7W (101A) off Rte 3 in Nashua...there is a Sunoco on the right that has LSD fuel.

dudes,
I might have a problem going on, or speed trouble, but I saw a 2mpg loss from last fuel up on ULSD.. Maybe switch over to winter blend has happened? I got 18mpg on last fuel up compared to what I see over the summer which is like 22mpg...
Anyone else seeing this?

I might consider a yugo or something- get better mileage and then warpig and you 24 valvers can win the war you could never otherwise win.. :smilielol:

i was at the wal-mart in hudson around 9:30pm, not sure what day it was... it was a maroon t shirt. i noticed the turbo logo from like 100 feet away. i was commenting to my girl that it was a sweet logo, i thought it was a diesel shop's name or something.
nomad: i always notice a drop in mileage when the weather turns cold (like it has the past couple weeks). i blame the longer warmups (remote start is a blessing and a curse!). my truck always gets it's best mileage when it is hoooot and humid out. i have seen a best of 25.6 actual (not on the info center, it is always a little lower) on a hot week with ulsd and all highway driving and no a/c.... i have a light foot when i want to, and i always leave a big gap in front of me on the highway. i don't do the f'ing gas pedal/brake pedal tap-dance that is so popular in mass-

yea, i don't drive like that either, too nerve wracking. warm ups for me are usually 1 to 2 min then drive slowly.. otherwise my yard and street fill with smoke
i think ulsd has effecte mileage for me, but keeping track to make sure.

Doesn't sound like a NETDP shirt, sounds more like a Northeast Performance Diesel shirt.

Small world! I used to go there every wednesday night to "pin shoot" back when Bill Renforse owned it. Does that guy Dallas still hang around there? He did a hellova nice trigger job on my Smith & Wesson, and custom built me a Colt 1911.

couldn't tell ya, there were a bunch of young hoodlums around my age working when i went (on a sunday), it was my first time at any shooting range but the seeds have been sewn! it is a good way to dispose of a couple hundred bucks and leave with a big ol smile!
how loud is your d-max with no cat? can you hear the turbo in the exhaust? i'm searching for the right sound, i have a cat back 4" magnaflow which i like, i was looking into getting the front pipe, but i don't want it to echo too bad, i have a long ride to work. thanks for any info-

Dosn't seem too loud at all...( to me)-if you get on the fun petal hard though, it does have a nice little bark to it. As far as the turbo noise goes, I havn't had anyone take it out for a rip for me yet, but I've been told by my brother-in-law that it sounds mean as hell when I get after it leaving his house. (Big black smoke clouds are so cool! :Signal73: ) I think MBRP still has some cheesy sound clips on their website if you want to check there...I have never been hassled by the man for pipe, but it has made a few look.:dunno: -Craig

Have you checked with any of your local oil companies to see if they'll sell directly? I buy from one, who has thier own pumps on site. I save ~ $.20 per gallon. I've saved up to $.30, depending on when I've bought.

i think the "man" is on to us, they figured out that we get killer mileage and power out of our trucks and they are sticking it to us big time- i don't buy into the heating oil price increase hype. it takes less time and energy (money) to refine a gallon of diesel than it does for a gallon of gasoline. what a scam, we are buying a product that is based on "supply and demand" in which the manufacturer has complete control over the supply and the demand is easy to forecast. i've heard rumors of $5 a gallon fuel within the next year. this country is gonna come to a screeching halt unless someone steps in soon. basically everyone in the country takes a pay cut everytime the greedy oil folks jack up the price.

High priced fuel makes my truck very angry - so angry in fact it turns it's own fuel red

Yes, i understand that is wrong, maybe it's the marvel mystery snake oil i dump in there occassionally?

good places to buy fuel are the same places which sell heating oil- they'll give discounts on the gallon so it's sometimes a good deal.

What's getting me these days is the new "flexFuel" cars, the ones that run E85. I got a thumbs down in a Tedesci food store last week for being noisy and smokie. Do these moorons understand what power and effort it takes to make a gal of "e85"? How many gallons of diesel per gallon of "E85"? Anyone know? I"m thinking probably like 4:1. Just more marketing playing on the heart/soul strings... <end rant>

Maybe they just didn't like your truck...being a 12v and all.

That's what this place is. They have ~ 15 oil trucks. There's two tanks at their site. IIRC, the diesel fuel tank is 10K and the heating oil is 30K.

Another CTD owner in town told me about the place a year ago.

amen to that! people don't think about how many gallons of diesel fuel it takes to plow the fields, harvest the crops, and transport materials to a refinery, only to get an inferior fuel with way less btu's than gasoline. the same thing happens in the bus industry (where i happily work). people think the new "dual mode" buses are so clean because they can run silently on electric only power from overhead wires, then fire up the huge diesel powered generator and drive off with no overhead electric power on normal roads. they think no exhaust= no pollution. what they don't realize is that 20 miles away on the north shore is a COAL burning powerplant that generates the power for these "pollution free" buses to run on. i could go on for hours on the subject.
anybody know if homemade biodiesel gels up in winter conditions, and if it will burn up the fuel system in my duramax? also, nomad, is "reddish" fuel exactly the same as #2 lsd or are there chemical differences (besides the "tint")

As far as I know, the difference between the on and off road fuel is the dye added (and less the road tax).

one of my coworkers at the firehouse drives oil+diesel, he says they fill it up at the same terminal, and add the dye themselves. I guess less then a cupfull does a whole 300 gal oil truck full of diesel!

That less than a cupfull adds ~ $.045 per gallon in tax. To a 300 gallon load, that comes to $135 more out of the consumers pocket.

Held down by the man again. :exactly:

assuming they add an 8 ounce cupful, then a gallon of dye yields $1,080 in extra profit when mixed with diesel fuel! good lawd! so as far as sulfur content, should i assume that heating oil is dyed #2 lsd (500 ppm sulfur)? speaking hypothetically :crossfingers: of course, it should give the same power, lubricity and mileage of #2 low sulfur diesel?

I was told in Sept by my oil distributor, which is the same folks i buy my diesel from... that it's all the same thing now, ALL ULSD.
