For those 12 valve guys i have a stock 95 12 valve with 55K on it. I haul a cow trailer and an 18 ft landscape filled with corn, not a tremendous amount of weight..enough to make it really work on hill though. I am not a hot rodder and dont beat on it at all...hardly ever sees any RPM over 2100 which is highway. can i move the stock fuel plate a little maybe 20-30 horse at most...i dont want to be smokin intersections...just more grunt for these hills without gauges and exhaust etc. can i do this?

I would say you could slide away without any problem at all.

I would say yes. Stock plate has a profile that isnt too aggressive and with a 160 pump you may only get 30 hp or so sliding the stock plate full forward. EGT and boost are nice to have if you find yourself with an extra $250 someday.
I cant really see 30ish hp hurting your trans either. If it does you get to upgrade:woohoo:

ok im going to follow the instructions posted on DTR ill do it next weekend ill let u know how it feels after ...one more question my truck is registered under farm plates...no inspections im going to take off the CAT what will happen...louder, stay same....lower egt's...power???

Jim

lower EGT's and maybe a little louder. You run into any problems with the fuel plate work give us a holler.
PS, you have now started your way down the slippery slope of mods:muahaha:

Ya dude. Its addicting. It starts with a little slideroo, a yank of a vacuum line, then its off to the races. :nutkick: :woohoo:

absolutely no smoke now unless from a dead stop its to the floor theres a little little puff of pre boost fuel going to the muffler shop to make me a 3.5" to 4" pipe in place of the cat one of these days

does anyonehave a good set of directions that they have or can type me when they get a free moment i searched dtr and they are confusing. when u break off that break off screw what can you replace it with?

Jim
10-22-2007, 09:33 PM
the break off screw is already broken off. Its basically a tamper proof screw head design. You can get it out with a small chisel, or drill the hole out slightly larger and drive a small torx bit down into the screw head and back it out.

You will see what I mean when you take a look at it. If you can make it to Derby on fri Ill be there if you want a hand.

alrite then after you take it out and put it back together what are you puttin back in that hole if im not doing anything ill take a ride down on fri

you can use the same screw or go to the hardware store and pick up one with a real head on it. If you want to reuse the old one cut a slot on the top so you can use a flat head screwdriver.

On a side note, dont get crazy tightening those down, the housing is aluminum and the threads can strip pretty easy if you get gorilla on it.

lol i wont "get gorilla" on it ill let you know if im gonna go fri...i know it cant be hard but a fuel system is important

I used one of those impact drivers on mine and it worked real well. I put a flathead bit on it and pounded it a couple 3 or 4 times and it took it right out. Injector lines are a pain though.... I took my air horn off just to get more room in there.

When I did the one in the service truck, I coudn't get a straight shot on the breakoff screw, there was a line in the way. I used a small chisel and it screwed right out! I didn't go hog wild when I slid the plate, maybe 1/8? Now it smokes like my 1st gen! It does weigh 19k though, think that affects it? :falldownlaugh:

First I turned the star wheel down. That made it pull a little better on takeoff. Smoked more, only when I first stepped on it. 3-4 weeks later we had wrench day, I swore I was gonna slide the plate. The next day I did it, slid the plate, left the AFC housing at the stock location. I figured I could move the AFC back if it was too much. Now it pulls hills better, much better on take off. Smokes like a son of a gun when pulling!
Well, now that I think about it, it smokes pretty good, but not much worse than an older dumptruck, Mack or whatever. It definetely smokes quite a bit more than it did! I'd like to have a pyro on it, but I'm not buying it! I think on a long hill, steady pull in 5th lugging a little, it gets hot. I can shift to 4th and it runs cleaner.
If you have a pyro, shouldn't be a problem, you can see the temps and shift. If it's too much, back off the plate or slide the AFC back.

It won't be as bad then. The converter will let it spool some, should take care of some smoke.
Are you in Cobleskill on weekends? We're going to have a Wrench Day or some kind of meet on the 2nd weekend in November. I'll post when I find out where, near Marathon, I think. You're welcome to come and hang out.

About 1 hour south of Syracuse, 1/2 hour north of Binghamton. From Cobleskill, 88 west to Bingo then north on 81. Or you can get off at Bainbridge, and follow 206 across to 81, north to Marathon.

so i was just lookin at the truck today, and in this picuture you can see 3 of the 4 bolts, the one you cant see is the break off screw since its just a round head with a hole. now why are the bottom two allen heads and the top left a screw?

You mean hex head? Who knows, the 8th wonder of the world :97DodgeCTD:

I replaced all of mine with Hex heads for easy removal.

Thats just how they did it. Like that on all of em. The ones holding on the shutoff solenoid bracket are slightly longer.

do you have to take off that selenoid to get at it?

pull the bottom two bolts out...then pull the solenoid down (there are 3 bolts that hold it on-two on top of the AFC housing there and one in the back of the pump). chisel the break-away screw off with a screwdriver or chisel. i think the replacement screws are 6mm x 1.00 or 1.25 pitch??
