Working on a marine conversion for a repower a year or so down the line.
Base will be a VE powered 89 12v Cummins with about 100 k on the ticker.
Anyone with marine accessories for a 6bt let me know. I'll need an exhaust manifold, flywheel, SAE 3 bellhousing, Turbocharger (HX35M), heat exchanger, etc.
Will put on a modern head too.
I want to tune it to about 200/210 hp It will be replacing a 120 hp Ford-Lehman diesel so it will be a nice power upgrade not to mention being modern.

Jay, I wonder if that was my Engine? Did you get it from the Waterbury area? I think my truck ended up in the boneyard by Teddy's. Does it have Brite Blue Overspray? Moose

Moose...no this truck was a Goshen farm truck.

OK cool. I need a bunch of stuff. I have a line on an exhaust manifold, and bellhousing, and I think a flywheel. And I have a water to air aftercooler (and fuel lines for a VE pump) enroute.
I'll be needing a wet turbo (perferably an HX 35M), I can rebuild it no problem. I'll need a heat exchanger, expansion tank, starter, mounts.

Then I'll be looking for a modern 12 V head and gaskets..and injectors of course, but I'll probably just use some 1st gen Bosch 190s or maybe even stockers as I only need 200 hp.

As I said this is a 1 to 2 year project so no hurry on anything

There are several around for that king of $$, but I want to both go low cost, and do it myself as a project.
My last boat I repowered in 2000 with a new (built Dec99) 6BTA 270 hp diamond series. (Purchased thru Cummins Metropower, Butch Stark). It was pricey then at $14K (with gear) but it was a nice upgrade to the boat.

I'm doing the same thing. I have a first generation 1990 cummins 6bt that I'm marinizing to put in my boat. My site for the change is http://6btconversion.com ...

I've found some suppliers for some parts and some of the others, I've been fabricating myself...

After about 9 months, the boat conversion is done...

and in one word...

SWEEEEEEETTT!!!

Check it out at 6bt marine conversions (http://6btconversion.com/6bt-boat-conversion-projects/26-silverton-express)

Also, I'm looking for others with conversion projects. I would be happy to feature on the conversion site. Also, looking for parts suppliers for the site as well...

Thanks...

Scott nice project.
If you look in the conversion area you'll see my latest aquisition which was a 6BT 210 that was in a boat fire. I bought it for the marine parts.
My goal is to have an assembled engine by spring time.
Right now I still need some parts, but I also have some doubles and other parts I can trade.
I have 2 exhaust manifolds, 2 turbochargers, 2 raw water pumps (ot sure which one I'll use).
Plus a CAV injection pump (will need a rebuild) and the fuel lines and injectors.
I'll also have 2 9 mm cylinder heads.
