View Full Version : Lifted the head...
Blew the head gasket sometime last week. Wife noticed the truck leaking something in the driveway last week. Of course I was like"The truck does not have a leak".
As it proceeded to get worse by the day I brought it down to Scott tonight and sure enough...time to o-ring the head!!
doug you were running the stock HG with arp studs by the look of your sig?

We need to replace the head, it was cracked in multiple spots. Scott's getting me a brand new head that we will have o-ringed, etc..
Should be ready for me to pick up middle of next week.

Heres a decent price Jay.

I'm paying $850.00 for a brand new Cummins head. Loaded.
Compare that to this price.

Hey Matt,
Is that your white truck with the stacks I see every once in a while coming through Bethlehem??
Are you having it ported?
Nope...just O-ringed.

Scott's been telling me to get this one o-ringed before I put the turbo on but its the stock gasket with 10k mi on light mods and the rest on the stock 160hp setup. I might also just install the studs and wait and see. Its only going to have a SPS62 on it, no twins.

You might want to listen to Scott,he sees this stuff all the time.I was telling my buddy who bought my B1 from me to o-ring or at least studd for over 2 yrs now since hes been running it,and his luck ran out 2 weeks ago. When these suckers blow it can be a real mess,he had over a gallon of black as coal motor oil in his coolant before he figured out something was amiss.Do it on your terms, withotu the mess, and with a schedule. His blew right before we got a foot of snow, and he plows with his truck,so it was a BIG mistake, all the stress of having a truck down, and trying to get it done while the area is gettign belted with a storm just isnt worth it.They always blow at the worst time it seems.

Not me. I actually saw that truck yesterday in Waterbury if it is the same one. 3500 reg cab dually with stacks. I have a black 2500 club cab.
Its only going to have a SPS62 on it, no twins.
That's all I'm running right now.

Eh I dunno.. you got some good time on that headgasket there with ARP studs and that phat shaft. My HP will probably end up a bit lower with the mods I want (but cant afford yet). Im tempted to grind my stock cam plate down to a 0 plate just to get some more fuel for now.

I think you'd be alright with that. But, every truck is different. I had major HG worries over the winter after doing the #10 plate and 191DVs, and timing to 18*; but Scott says with my setup, and stock intercooler, it's not likely to go. He also knows I drive like a granny, most a time... LOL
I hit 40PSI several times on 495 in last two days, when I do that I worry, but it's hard not to do that...
Doug, how's the new head and setup ?
It's all good ...I'm putting on a bigger charger (SPS 66) next week to compensate for the Mach 8s I'm running now. Come on 11s...:woohoo:
